Mobetta Thursdays curated by Grammy Award-winning Maurice Brown is taking over Brooklyn's newest Music Venue "Now and Then NYC!" Enjoy some new material along with covers and impromptu songs made up on the fly by some of the world's most talented musicians. This week July 22nd Mobetta Thursdays Presents: J. IVY

J. Ivy is an Clio, Telly, and NAACP Image Award Winning Poet, Spoken Word Artist, Actor & Songwriter, widely known for his appearances on HBO Def Poetry and for his feature with Jay-Z on Kanye West’s GRAMMY Winning Album, The College Dropout. Ivy poetically narrated, acted, and starred in the Award Winning B.E.T. documentary, Muhammad Ali: The People’s Champ and the NAACP Nominated documentary, Martin: The Legacy of a King.

After being commissioned by Michael Jordan & Deepak Chopra, J. Ivy wrote and narrated Beyoncé’s Black Is King promo for the 2020 Return of the NBA. He is also the Poet Laureate for the foundation of famed visual artist Ernie Barnes. Fun fact, J. Ivy is who gave John Stephens the stage name John Legend, as told on Oprah’s Next Chapter.

J. Ivy’s latest works include his 3rd book, Dear Father: Breaking the Cycle of Pain, his 4th studio album, Catching Dreams, and co-starring in the Award Winning Short Film, Four Seasons. J. Ivy’s writing is also featured in the Hip-Hop Opera, Hal King and his voice can be heard in Coca-Cola’s National Ad, History Shakers. After serving as the Recording Academy’s Chicago Chapter President he has become the first poet to hold a Trustee’s seat in the history of the Academy.

Now and Then" is Brooklyn's newest INDOOR/OUTDOOR venue with an amazing Sound System, an outdoor patio, delicious food and full bar. Every seat in the house is a perfect seat with a view of the bandstand.
