Join Marc Williams at Mead Gardens in Winter Park on Sunday April 3 from 10 am - 4 pm for a full day of learning about Wild Edible Plants and Fermentations.

Wild edibles represent an array of hundreds of species that are available for free growing in a variety of soils throughout the state of Florida and beyond. Some enterprising farmers have already picked up on the potential of selling plants such as Lambsquarters, Purslane and others to local markets around the country. Many exotic invasives have a tradition of use in their places of origin that by employment may help in their potential control. We will spend some time in this intensive covering the essentials of proper plant id and the major families of wild edibles in Florida as well as ideas for delectable preparation. After a brief overview we will go on a plant walk to work on identification directly, harvest items and make something from what we have found. After we have sampled some examples of dishes at lunch we will then launch into the wonderful world of fermented beverages. During this afternoon part of the experience, we will talk about and taste and wide array of fermented beverages including kvass, oxymels, shrubs, switchels and more.
